Caught in the Act: Voyeurism in the Council Estate

It was a typical Saturday night on the council estate. The air was thick with the smell of fried food and the distant hum of late-night telly from the flats. Me and the lads were hanging out by the old playground, the only spot where you could get a decent signal on your phone. We were all chilling, having a laugh, when I noticed Alex hanging back, quieter than usual.

Alex was a shy lad, always had been. He’d been in the same year as me at school, but we never really talked much. I was the loud, confident type, always getting into trouble, while Alex was the quiet one, always keeping to himself. But there was something about him that night, a spark in his eyes that I hadn’t seen before.

I was just about to ask him what was up when my phone buzzed. It was a text from Jake, one of the lads from the estate.

Jake: Meet me by the old community centre. Got something to show you.

I’d known Jake since we were kids. He was a year older than me, always up for a laugh, and he had this way of making everyone feel included. He was the kind of guy who was comfortable in his own skin, never cared what anyone thought.

“Alright, lads, I’m off,” I said, slipping my phone back into my pocket. “See you lot later.”

As I walked away, I could feel Alex’s eyes on me. I turned back and gave him a nod, and he looked away, a slight blush creeping up his cheeks.

The old community centre was a bit of a trek, but it was worth it. The place had been abandoned for years, and it was the perfect spot for a bit of privacy. When I got there, Jake was already waiting, leaning against the rusted fence, a smirk on his face.

“What’s up, Jake?” I asked, walking over to him.

“Got something to show you,” he said, his eyes gleaming with mischief. “Come on.”

He led me around the back of the building, where the windows were broken, and the walls were covered in graffiti. We slipped inside, and Jake pulled out a small torch, lighting the way through the dark corridors.

“What’s all this about, Jake?” I asked, a bit of excitement creeping into my voice.

“You’ll see,” he said, leading me into one of the old classrooms.

The room was empty except for a few old desks and chairs. Jake walked over to the window and pulled back the curtains, revealing the council estate spread out below us. The lights from the flats twinkled in the distance, and the faint sound of music drifted up from somewhere nearby.

“What are we doing here, Jake?” I asked, a bit confused.

“Watching,” he said, his voice low. “Just watch.”

He pointed to a window in one of the flats across the way. The curtains were open, and you could see right into the living room. There was a couple inside, laughing and chatting, completely unaware that they were being watched.

“This is what I do,” Jake said, his eyes never leaving the window. “I watch.”

I felt a thrill run through me. There was something exciting about it, something forbidden. I found myself drawn to the window, my heart pounding in my chest.

“You ever done this before?” Jake asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

“No,” I admitted, my eyes glued to the scene unfolding below. “But it’s… exciting.”

Jake chuckled, a low, throaty sound. “It is, isn’t it?”

We stood there for what felt like hours, just watching. The couple in the flat moved around, going about their evening, completely unaware of our presence. I felt a strange sense of power, of control, knowing that we could see them, but they couldn’t see us.

Suddenly, Jake’s hand was on my arm, pulling me back from the window. “We should go,” he said, his voice tense. “Before they see us.”

We slipped out of the community centre and made our way back to the playground. The lads were still there, laughing and joking, but I couldn’t focus on them. My mind was still on the couple in the flat, on the thrill of watching.

As the night wore on, I found myself glancing over at Alex. He was still quiet, still keeping to himself, but there was that spark in his eyes again. I wondered what he was thinking, what he was feeling.

Eventually, the lads started to drift off, heading back to their flats. Jake gave me a nod and disappeared into the night, leaving me alone with Alex.

“You alright, Alex?” I asked, walking over to him.

He looked up at me, his eyes wide. “Yeah, I’m alright,” he said, his voice soft.

“You sure?” I asked, sensing there was more to it.

He hesitated for a moment, then looked away. “I… I saw you,” he admitted. “With Jake. By the community centre.”

I felt a chill run down my spine. “You saw us?”

He nodded. “I followed you. I… I didn’t mean to, but… I couldn’t help it.”

I stared at him, my mind racing. He’d seen us. He’d seen what we were doing. But there was something in his eyes, something that told me he wasn’t judging, that he understood.

“Why did you follow me?” I asked, my voice low.

He looked up at me, his eyes filled with a mix of fear and excitement. “Because… because I wanted to see,” he said. “I wanted to know what it was like.”

I felt a rush of understanding. He was like me, like Jake. He was drawn to the thrill, to the forbidden.

“You want to watch too?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

He nodded, his eyes never leaving mine. “Yes,” he said, his voice steady. “I want to watch.”

I felt a thrill run through me. This was new, this was exciting. I’d never shared this part of myself with anyone before, not like this.

“Alright,” I said, my voice firm. “Let’s go.”

We made our way back to the community centre, slipping inside just like before. I led Alex to the same classroom, to the same window. The couple in the flat were still there, still going about their evening.

I felt Alex tense beside me, his breath coming in short, quick gasps. I put a hand on his shoulder, steadying him. “It’s alright,” I said, my voice low. “Just watch.”

We stood there, side by side, watching as the couple moved around the flat. The thrill was back, stronger than before. I could feel the heat radiating off Alex, could feel his excitement, his fear.

As the night wore on, I found myself drawn to him. There was something about him, something that made me want to protect him, to guide him. I could see the fear in his eyes, but also the excitement, the thrill.

Eventually, the couple in the flat turned off the lights and disappeared into another room. Alex looked up at me, his eyes wide. “What now?” he asked, his voice soft.

I smiled, a thrill running through me. “Now, we go home,” I said, my voice firm. “But we’ll do this again. If you want to.”

He nodded, a small smile playing on his lips. “I want to,” he said, his voice steady.

As we made our way back to the playground, I felt a sense of contentment. I’d shared something with Alex, something that was a part of me, something that I’d never shared with anyone before. And he’d accepted it, and he’d embraced it.

The next day, I woke up to a text from Jake.

Jake: Meet me by the community centre tonight. Got something to show you.

I smiled, a thrill running through me. This was going to be fun.
